Jeremy's exercise of the week: The overhead barbell press
What is it?
An overhead press involves standing with the bar at your shoulders and pressing upwards finishing with the bar overhead.
What does it do?
Helps build strong shoulders, chest and arms while working the rest of your body as well. Also, because you are standing, it also helps to develop your core and stabiliser muscles in your trunk.
How to do it:
Stand with your legs shoulder width apart. Press the bar over your head in as straight of a line as possible. Keep your entire body tight while pressing the bar overhead.
Avoid leaning back and arching it, instead squeeze your glutes (bum) and push your hips forward. With this movement, you’ll lean your head slightly back and out of the way.
